The Children’s Garden – Downtown is a leading child care center offering early learning and education programs for infants from 6 weeks old to children through 6 years old. Opened in 1988, The Children’s Garden has become one of Portland’s most loved early childhood learning centers. We offer before-school and after-school care as well, making our learning center the perfect place for working parents in the Portland community.

Many consider Portland one of the world’s most environmentally conscious cities, due to its high walkability, 10,000 acres of public parks, farm-to-table dining, and large number of bicyclists. Portland’s dry summers and rainy winters make it the perfect climate for growing roses, giving Portland the title of “City of Roses.”
Portland is a cultural hub and popular tourist destination with endless family-friendly attractions to visit. The Oregon Zoo is one of the most popular attractions in the state of Oregon, with an average of 1.6 million visitors a year! The Zoo is home to almost 2,000 animals, including elephants, lions, penguins, and leopards. The Portland Children’s Museum is another place children won’t want to leave. Full of interactive exhibits, the Portland Children’s Museum is the perfect place for children to climb, play, build, create, and learn. The Children’s Museum even has a Pet Hospital, where children who love animals can pretend to be veterinarians.
The Oregon Museum of Science and Industry is another popular museum in Portland. The Museum features multiple auditoriums and theaters, as well as a planetarium, and opportunities for visitors to learn about how technology has evolved over the years. Nearby is the Portland Art Museum, which is the oldest art museum on the West Coast. Opened in 1892, the Portland Art Museum showcases Native American art, as well as modern and contemporary art.
The Lewis and Clark National and State Historical Parks are beautiful parks located along the trail Lewis and Clark took during their exploration of the countryside. Along the trail, there are sites that Lewis and Clark visited, as well as memorials dedicated to them. Lan Su Chinese Garden is another attraction unique to Portland. This 40,000 square foot garden contains many different plants that are indigenous to China, including orchids, bamboos, and water plants. The Garden also hosts several events during the summer, such as live demonstrations and calligraphy classes.

Children have the freedom to learn at their own pace and focus on the subjects that interest them. We aim to create a sense of peace in our classrooms by emphasizing mindfulness in order to help children regulate their emotions and practice peaceful problem solving.
Our passionate teachers and staff members have all participated in extensive education and health and safety training. Teachers are also trained in the Reflective Teaching model, which helps build an emotional connection between them and their students. In addition to our individualized curriculum, we also offer several different enrichment activities to develop every aspect of a child. Students have the option of participating in fun extracurricular activities, including soccer, theater, and dance classes.

The Children’s Garden is located on the fringes of Downtown Portland and is only a 5-minute drive into the heart of the city. To get to downtown Portland from The Children’s Garden, head southeast on SW Adler Street, crossing Interstate 405. This will take you straight into the hustle and bustle of Downtown Portland.
